FAQ

Does Finder replace the LMS/SIGB?

No. Finder is designed to integrate with the main LMS/SIGB systems used by libraries. It uses the location information needed to guide users while the LMS/SIGB continues to manage the library's core bibliographic and operational processes.

The Finder management dashboard open on a laptop in the UAM Humanities Library, its shelving out of focus behind. The screen shows the Maps section: a colour-coded ground-floor plan of the library beside a searchable list of shelf zones, with a sidebar for the network, centres, maps, profiles, users, languages, events, news, displays and analytics.

A library management system holds the bibliographic record, the circulation rules, the acquisitions and everything else the institution runs on. Replacing it is a multi-year project, and nothing about locating a book on a shelf requires it.

Finder reads the location information it needs and leaves the rest alone. The system of record stays the system of record.

That boundary is deliberate. It is what allows Finder to be added to a library that has already invested years in its existing environment, without asking anyone to migrate.
