FAQ

Does Finder replace the OPAC?

No. Finder complements the OPAC. Users can continue searching through the interface they already know and open Finder when they need visual guidance to the physical location of an eligible item.

A 43-inch Finder display mounted on a wall at the UAM Humanities Library, showing the library portal in French: tiles for what Finder is, the campus map and finding a book, beside a poster for a Humanities Library exhibition and a row of upcoming events.

The catalog a library’s users already know is an asset, not an obstacle. People have learned it, staff teach it, and links to it exist across the institution.

So Finder does not ask anyone to search somewhere else. A Locate action appears alongside an eligible physical item, and opening it shows the relevant library, location and call number on a map.

The search a user knows stays the search they know. What changes is what happens after the result appears.
